this cherry tree wasn't chopped. it fell down. in the mountains of Ashville, NC. the landowner gave it to a neighboring artisan. his daughter lives in Brooklyn, and her roommate was opening a bar. Sam and Dick traded measures in early summer 2007. when the wood was finally dry, he cut the bar. then the tables. then the shelves and side bar. come fall, he wrapped each piece carefully. then he drove it to NYC in his pickup truck with a friend and a bottle of moonshine. Sam is pretty sure that aunt nita would love it.
